With grieving hearts, we announce the passing of Mr. Fethullah Gülen from this world.
Mr Gulen was an exceptional figure who served as a source of faith, wisdom, and spiritual inspiration for Hizmet volunteers and countless people around the world. After a period of illness, He passed away in a hospital in Pennsylvania where he was receiving treatment. His life, organised around the themes of faith, love, tolerance, dialogue, and education, will continue to guide and inspire those dedicated to serving humanity.
The loss of Mr. Gülen is a time for reflection and prayer for the Hizmet movement. His legacy extends far beyond his earthly life. He was an extraordinary religious and intellectual thinker whose influence will be felt for generations to come. In his own words: “Our religious and human values do not depend on individuals; their existence is not tied to certain individuals. These values are sufficient to keep people united tomorrow without disintegration. As long as these services continue in alignment with God’s will, God Almighty will not allow slander, division, or disintegration. We trust in Him and take refuge in Him.”
The spiritual guidance of the Hizmet movement will now be provided by his close companions, who have inspired the community through their own lives. Although Mr. Gülen had not taken an active role in Hizmet institutions in recent years, he consistently encouraged consultation and collective decision-making. This principle remains fundamental for the continuation of the movement’s services in education, dialogue, and humanitarian aid.
The Hizmet movement continues to thrive and grow in democracies around the world. There is no “successor” to Mr. Gülen, as he did not hold any formal position within the Hizmet movement. However, his legacy will continue to serve as a powerful source of inspiration. The way he lived and dedicated himself to serving others will stand as a testament to his humility, pursuit of truth, and love. Hizmet volunteers will continue to be guided by his words and life as they carry on their mission to serve humanity for the sake of God.
The best way to honour his memory is to continue striving toward the vision to which he dedicated his life: to promote education, peace, mutual understanding, and reconciliation across the world. The Hizmet movement remains committed to this vision, continuing to work tirelessly to bring it to fruition.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to all his relatives and loved ones. May God Almighty have mercy on his soul and grant him forgiveness.
With deepest sympathy,
