In the 21st century, the globalization which has made the interfaith and inter-civilizational dialogue the most important challenge of our time. Dr. McMaster will examine Christian, Jewish and Islamic discourses on dialogue, peaceful coexistence and cooperation with people of faiths.

The presentation will look at the nature of globalisation and it’s negative and positive impacts. It will recognise how our religions are now themselves globalised, present on every continent, and how they need to engage in a dialogue of religions. This imperative is in order to identify shared ethics for a more humane globalisation and to create together eco-human flourishing and a common good.

SPEAKER:

Dr Johnston McMaster is from Ireland, a theologian in the Christian tradition and an Adjunct Assistant Professor with the Irish School of Ecumenics, Trinity College Dublin (Belfast campus). His current programme is Ethical and Shared Remembering 1912-1922, a crucial period in Irish history that has shaped Ireland to the present. His special areas of interest are Political and Public Theology, Interfaith Dialogue, Peacebuilding, Reconciliation Theology, Social Ethics and Celtic Christianity and Spirituality. He has published books on Celtic Social Ethics, Overcoming Violence in Ireland, Jewish, Christian and Muslim dialogue and the Reformations in Europe:Then and Now.
